When is massage not allowed?
Reasons why massage is not allowed are called contraindications.
A relative contraindication means that in some cases you may massage, but that you avoid certain places on the body and/or only treat them in consultation with a doctor. An absolute contraindication means that you are absolutely not allowed to massage.
Relative contraindications:
BruisesVaricose veinsNon-contagious skin conditionsHigh blood pressureHeart defectUse of medication (blood thinners)Medications that affect driving ability
Absolute contraindications:
During the first 3 months of pregnancy, with the exception of the pregnancy massageFeverGeneral infectious diseasesToo much painExtreme fatiguePoor general healthContagious skin conditionsCancer (consult your doctor, in some cases a gentle massage can be beneficial)InflammationsRecovery period after surgeryVascular disorders
In addition to the above, there are other contraindications for the Hotstone massage.
Relative contraindications:
Rheumatism In most cases, rheumatism is a contraindication for hot stone massage, but massage is possible in certain forms of rheumatism, for example if there are no active inflammations. Discuss this with a medical expert. Pregnancy What you can massage and in what phase of pregnancy varies widely. If a hot stone massage during pregnancy is really desired, this should always be done in consultation with a doctor.
Absolute contraindications:
Diabetes The massage and the hot stones can cause minor burns and bruises on sensitive skin, which will be more difficult to heal in someone with diabetes. Skin infections Because heat is naturally released during skin infections, a hot stone massage will only worsen the inflammation. So no Hotstone massage until the skin inflammation has completely disappeared. Burnout or extreme fatigue Although a Hotstone massage is an excellent treatment to reduce stress, it is an absolute contraindication for burnout and extreme fatigue. Due to the deep effect, the effect of the massage can sometimes be felt for days. People with burnout or who are extremely tired will feel even more tired.
If you are not sure whether you can have a massage, ask your doctor first.
If you have not asked your doctor for advice and there may be a contraindication, the massage will be adjusted in consultation or will not take place at all.
